It is widely used as a solvent in various industries such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, and electronics . Dichloromethane is also used as a propellant and solvent in aerosol products including paints, automotive products, adhesives, and hair sprays . It is slightly polar and miscible with many organic solvents but not miscible with water . Dichloromethane has a boiling point of 39.6 °C (103.3 °F) and a melting point of -96.7 °C (-142.1 °F) . It is neither flammable nor explosive in air but can form flammable vapor-air mixtures above approximately 100 °C . Dichloromethane is classified as a hazardous substance and can cause skin irritation and eye damage upon contact.
